Hey everybody,
The reason why we are writing this is because our English teacher gave us the homework during the fall break to write a blog entry. The blog entry should be about a self-chosen commitment that makes the world a better place. Line and I chose to go out and collect some garbage while taking Emma, my neighbour’s dog, out for a walk at the same time. In the second week of fall break we met five times to go for a little walk that lasted about one hour each. Now you will maybe ask yourself why we chose to do exactly this activity. We did it because it is a perfect way to help the environment, do something for your own health and help our neighbours/fellow men by taking their dog with us (and we would assume that the dog enjoyed it, too).

As we mentioned in the introduction we went for a walk with Emma while picking up garbage that lay at the side of the street and on the fields. We wanted to collect garbage because there are a lot of people that do not really care about littering and just let their trash fall into the nature. That is why we chose to get a garbage bag and collect as much garbage as possible. Additionally it is very good for our health because we had the opportunity to collect steps and get some fresh air. We also wanted to take Emma with us because we thought it would be helpful for the neighbours and we would have a little bit more fun with her. On every walk we went out about one hour and we were
always able to collect two bags full of garbage. The few people that passed us did not really care about us and kept walking.

I thought that it would be very boring because it was “forced” but at the end it was not as bad as I thought. I did not really have any motivation at the beginning but in the end it definitely was more fun. I felt very good and the time passed very quickly. But I also had a lot of fun because I didn’t have to do it alone. From this action I take with me, that it is possible to help the environment, the people and also have fun at the same time. ☺

When we first decided to meet I did not have any motivation but after the first time of collecting garbage I realised that it was not as bad as I thought and that it actually was fun. I think that is because I did not have to do it on my own but had someone with who I could do it together. Another not that positive thing that I realised was that a lot of garbage laid around the garbage cans. So please if you try to throw something away don’t miss the garbage can. During this “homework” I learned that it is not that difficult to help your fellow people or/and your environment and that it also can be a lot of fun. ☺
To cut a long story short we really enjoyed it and do it again but definitely not that often.
We would like to remind you that you should not leave your garbage in the nature and if you put something into the trash can please don’t miss it.
And now it is your turn! Grab a garbage bag and gloves and collect some garbage from the streets and fields. YOU CAN DO IT!!!
P.S. We would love to know what you think about it and please make sure to leave a comment below.
Thank you for reading our little blog entry and thank you to my dad/Sarah’s dad for letting us publish our blog entry on his blog (even though it has nothing to do with his usual topics☺)
